Avadhoot’s Chinese name is 小虎 means "little tiger". Two years ago, after graduating from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in India, he started working at TSMC. Shortly after arriving in Taiwan, he formed a Chinese language class with his colleagues. To be honest, in that class, Xiao Hu wasn’t the fastest learner and was often teased by his classmates for confusing “you, me, him.”
Unexpectedly, after the group class ended, 小虎 told his teacher that he wanted to challenge the A1 exam within three months. One hour of class per week studyin with teacher was clearly not enough, so he dedicated all his free time to studying Chinese—listening to audio lessons while on the road, watching Chinese YouTube videos at home, and even striking up a few conversations with elderly folks at the market. Gradually, he mastered his own unique method of self-studying Chinese. Sure enough, three months later, he passed the A1 exam.

Next, he told his teacher that he planned to pass the A2 exam within three months. Frankly, this was quite an ambitious plan—almost none of his colleagues had ever achieved this. Working at TSMC is very demanding, and most students only reach the basic listening and speaking stage; moreover, it is practically impossible to cover all the A2 material in just three months.
After discussing it, we decided to stick with the self-study approach, using the time with the teacher to answer questions and focus on the key points and difficulties. In fact, the teacher never expected him to pass, but once again, 小虎 impressed his teacher by passing!
Today, he held his A2 certificate in hand, along with a NT$20,000 reward, and happily announced that his next goal is to pass B1 in three months! He says that through studying Chinese, he has experienced many of the joys of life in Taiwan, gradually broadening his horizons, making more friends, and learning more about the culture. This has made him feel that all the efforts he’s put into learning are truly worthwhile.
Among the his peers at TSMC, no one has yet attempted the B2 exam, and he hopes to be the first. His teacher also sincerely wishes him success!
